Changing the Dialup Number

GCom Internet has two Australia wide dialup numbers...

• For dialup modem connections, the number to dial is 0198 333 781.
• For ISDN connections only, the number to dial is 0198 334 781.

However, occassionally it may be necessary to modify the dialup number to allow for specific situations such as disabling call waiting, dialling from hotels with special prefixes, or working with prepaid telephone systems.

If it's a one off change, the dialup number can generally just be modified at the point of connection via the dialup dialogue. However, if the change needs to be made permanently, then one of the processes detailed below should be followed, depending on the operating system being used...

Windows 95/98

• Double click on the "My Computer" icon.
• Double click on the "Dial-Up Networking" icon.
• Right click on the "GCom" icon.
• Click on the "Properties" menu item.
• Modify the dialup number as required.
• Click on the "OK" button.

Windows ME

• Double click on the "My Computer" icon.
• Double click on the "Control Panel" icon.
• Double click on the "Dial-Up Networking" icon.
• Right click on the "GCom" icon.
• Click on the "Properties" menu item.
• Modify the dialup number as required.
• Click on the "OK" button.

Windows 2000

• Double click on the "My Computer" icon.
• Double click on the "Control Panel" icon.
• Double click on the "Network and Dial-Up Connections" icon.
• Right click on the "GCom" icon.
• Click on the "Properties" menu item.
• Modify the dialup number as required.
• Click on the "OK" button.

Windows XP

• Click on the "Start" button.
• Click on the "Control Panel" menu item.
• Ensure you have "Classic View" selected.
• Double click on the "Networking Connections" icon.
• Right click on the "GCom" icon.
• Click on the"Properties" menu item.
• Modify the dialup number as required.
• Click on the "OK" button.

Windows Vista

• Click on the "Start" button.
• Click on the "Control Panel" menu item.
• Ensure you have "Classic View" selected.
• Double click on the "Network and Sharing Center" icon.
• Click on the "Manage network connections" link.
• Right click on the "GCom" icon.
• Click on the"Properties" menu item.
• Modify the dialup number as required.
• Click on the "OK" button.
